Kinda lame advice.

It’s often said that spending less than you earn is the only real way to get rich.

This core principle of personal finance can be challenging to follow, but of course there’s some truth to it.

The problem with generalized advice like this? It’s totally generic and it doesn’t take you into account!

Here’s some other generic advice you’ve heard before:

Understand your income and expenses. Track both over time to better view your overall financial picture. Once you know where your money is going and coming from, you can begin to make changes that will help you save more than you spend.

Create a budget – that’s the key to staying on track. It should include a breakdown of all your income sources and regular expenses. Be sure to add in occasional costs like holidays and birthday gifts too. Once you have your budget set up, you should review it regularly to ensure you stay within your limits.

Another vital part of growing your wealth is get into investing. Stocks, mutual funds, equities, and fixed income securities are all excellent options for increasing your wealth over time.

Don’t forget to plan for emergencies, retirement, and other long-term goals! Yes, of course you’ve heard that one before.

Sure, by following this advice, you can effectively build wealth rather than just living paycheck-to-paycheck. Eventually, it’s like a snowball going downhill, and you’ll have even more to save and invest each month.

Again, where’s the you in all this great advice?

That’s why I don’t do generic advice with my clients. I don’t believe it’s actionable, because there’s no ‘why’ or ‘how’ behind it. No real motivation.

So if you’d like to discuss an approach to building your wealth with a little soul behind it, why don’t you ditch all that boring advice and talk to a pro?
