1. Be sure that anyone you consider working with is personally a member of the local better business bureau.

3. Be sure that anyone you are considering working has been in the industry at least 12 years.
                            
   I have been a licensed insurance professional assisting clients in retirement planning for over 17 years. To achieve real experience of value, many experts feel you need at least 12 years in the business to have worked through at least 3 cycles of the economy. It is that experience in the real world that creates the knowledge and know-how necessary to be of genuine value to any clients you serve.
   
   THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO LET SOMEONE TRAIN WITH YOUR MONEY AND RETIREMENT FUTURE.

4. Be sure they work exclusively with retirees and pre-retirees. That’s all I have done for over 17 years. Why would you go to someone who tells you, “I work with any and all ages.” When you can work with someone who specializes in addressing the needs of today's retirees and pre-retirees?
   
   Doesn’t it just make common sense that you will benefit more from the experience of an insurance professional who works exclusively in this area?

5. Never work with anyone who doesn’t have an office and a staff to assist them. Always do business in their office.
   
   Avoid the out of the trunk salesman who says,  “I want to make it easy for you, so I will come to your home.” Maybe they can’t afford an office or aren’t committed enough to sign a 3 year lease.

6. Never buy anything at your first meeting.
   
   
7. Require that any retirement plan proposal be put in writing.
   
   
8. Require a list of 50 satisfied customers. Anyone in the business for 12 years (don’t forget the 12 year rule) should to have way more than 50 satisfied customers who are willing to comment on the quality of service they promise to deliver.


9. Don’t be scared to make an informed decision to work with someone new.      
   
   INFORMED IS THE KEY WORD.
